District Notice RSS feed for District-wide Notices Coronavirus Update | 冠狀病毒 更新 March 5, 2020 English | español | 中文譯本即將會發 Dear Parent/Guardian, It has been a challenging few weeks as the Coronavirus situation continues to develop in the Bay Area and around the world. We remain in daily contact with Alameda County regarding the spread of the virus, as well as discussing possible scenarios should cases be discovered in Fremont. As of today, there are two reported cases in Alameda County – one involving a healthcare worker who treated an exposed patient in Solano County and another in Berkeley who came into contact with the virus while traveling. Both individuals are isolated and receiving treatment. As testing kits for the virus become more readily available, reported cases are expected to rise, however, state health officials and the Alameda County Department of Public Health remain confident that risk of exposure remains low. I have received many questions about the possibility of school closures. While there is no recommendation for closures at this time, as a precaution, myself and other Alameda County Superintendents are having discussions and taking steps to prepare for that contingency should it become necessary. In that event, we will provide you with details as soon as possible. In the meantime, please continue to protect yourselves through the usual practices of hand-washing, covering your coughs/sneezes and staying home if your child isn’t feeling well. This is a new situation for all of us and I know there is much concern and anxiety in the community. We share those concerns and continue to make the safety of students and staff our highest priority. Our best strategy right now is to stay informed, follow basic precautions and remain calm. Updated information will be posted on the District website and sent to you directly through our parent notification systems. Self Quarantine: Students who have recently returned, or have contact* with a person returning from countries with larger outbreaks such as China, S. Korea, Iran, Italy and Japan are asked to voluntarily self-quarantine for fourteen days. Schools will work with students to support continued learning at home. Related absences will be excused. * Contact means: living in the same household, face-to-face interaction, sneeze or direct bodily discharge exposure, in a closed small environment like a vehicle within 2 seat lengths, and in any health care capacity.
